Link in bio for Instagram: where it goes and how to make it earn
Instagram is the reason "link in bio" exists. Captions don't take clickable links, so every post that sells, teaches or invites ends with the same instruction. This page covers where that link lives, the limits you're working inside, and what the page behind it should do.

Where the link goes on Instagram
Open your profile, tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add external link. You can add up to five. Instagram shows the first one by its address and folds the rest into "and 4 more", which most visitors never open. That's the real constraint: whatever you put first gets almost all the taps, so it should be a page that holds everything else, not one destination among five.
The other place a link works is Stories. The link sticker is available to every account and it's the only way to put a tappable link next to fresh content. Use it for time-bound things (a launch, a webinar, a booking window) and keep the bio link for the evergreen hub. Captions, comments and Reels descriptions don't make links clickable, which is why "link in bio" is the call to action on every post.
Write the bio so the link gets tapped
You have 150 characters and a name field that's searchable. Use them in this order:
- What you do and for whom, in plain words. "Brand designer for wellness founders" is searchable and specific; "creative soul" is neither.
- One proof point or format: "3-week sprints", "200+ students", "ex-Nykaa".
- A line that points at the link with a reason: "Booking March projects โ" or "Free pricing guide โ". A reason gets more taps than an arrow alone.
- Put the main keyword in the Name field too ("Asha | Brand designer"). Instagram search reads it; the bio text is less useful for search.
What the page behind the link should do
Instagram visitors arrive on a phone, inside the in-app browser, usually from a post they liked ten seconds ago. They aren't researching you. Your page has about one screen to confirm they're in the right place and give them one obvious next step.
Lead with the thing your latest posts are promoting. If this week's Reels are about your new template, the template should be the first card, with its price. Below that: a way to book you if you take clients, proof (two short testimonials beat a logo wall), and then everything else. Social icons go at the bottom; the visitor just came from one.
On featurd, that page can sell the product itself (free downloads on every plan, paid products on Pro through your own Stripe or Razorpay with 0% platform fee), take bookings into your Google Calendar, and collect enquiries with your own questions. Visitors don't have to leave for three other tools, which matters inside an in-app browser that loses its place when someone switches apps.
Track which posts send people
Instagram's own insights tell you how many people tapped your link, not what they did next. Add UTM tags so your page analytics can tell your bio, your Stories and your DMs apart: for example featurd.me/you?utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=bio in the bio and a different utm_campaign on each Story sticker.
featurd shows where visitors came from, including UTM source and campaign, device and country, so you can see whether a Story about your service or a Reel about your free guide sent more people, and which of them booked. The free plan keeps 7 days of history; Pro keeps everything. Our UTM builder makes the tagged links for you.
What converts from Instagram
Patterns that hold up across the pages we see:
- One primary action above the fold. Pages with five equal buttons spread the taps thin.
- Prices shown. Instagram buyers decide fast; "DM for price" loses most of them.
- A free thing for people who aren't ready: a guide or checklist that collects an email, so the visit isn't wasted.
- Matching visuals. If your grid is warm and editorial, a cold corporate page feels like a different person. Pick a look that matches your feed.
- A fast page. The in-app browser is slower than Safari or Chrome; heavy pages lose people before they load.

Make my page freeQuestions
How many links can I put in my Instagram bio?
Up to five, added in Edit profile โ Links. Only the first shows by its address; the rest sit behind a "more" tap. Most people use one link to a page that holds everything.
Why can't I add a clickable link to an Instagram caption?
Instagram doesn't make links in captions or comments clickable. Use the bio link, a Story link sticker, or a DM.
Can I track clicks from my Instagram bio?
Instagram counts link taps. To see what visitors did next, add UTM tags to the link and use a page with analytics; featurd shows UTM source and campaign, device and country.
Is my Instagram bio link searchable on Google?
The link itself isn't what ranks. A page you own, with your name and work on it, can rank for your name and gives Google and AI assistants one place to learn about you.
