Link in bio for Threads: profile links and posts that send traffic
Threads is closer to X than Instagram in how people use it, but it's built on your Instagram account. That gives you two advantages: links in posts are clickable, and the audience often already knows your Instagram. Here's how to use both.

Where links go on Threads
Open your Threads profile, tap Edit profile, then Links. Threads has expanded profile links over time and the exact number varies by account and app version, so check the Links screen in your app. As on Instagram, the first link is the one people see; make it a hub page.
Unlike Instagram, links in Threads posts are clickable, up to five unique links per post. That makes posts a real traffic source: share an essay, a launch or a booking window with the link right in it. Profile links are for evergreen visitors; post links are for moments.
Instagram and Threads: same person, different reader
Your Threads account uses your Instagram username and can import your Instagram bio and link when you set it up. That's a good default, but the people reading Threads are often there for opinions and writing, not visuals. A writer or consultant might want the Threads link to land on essays and services, while Instagram's lands on the latest product.
If you use one page for both, order it for the bigger audience and tag the links differently so you can tell them apart.
Write a bio that earns the click
You have 150 characters. Use them like this:
- Your topic or point of view ("Careers in climate tech").
- A proof point or format ("Weekly, free, 9k readers").
- Skip the call to action in the bio if your posts do it; Threads readers click from posts more than from profiles.
What the page behind the link should do
Threads readers are text-first. Your page should let them read more of you: an essay, a newsletter sign-up, a talk. Then the business: services, products with prices, a booking link. A free sign-up is the most natural first conversion from Threads, because the reader just enjoyed something you wrote.
featurd's contact and sign-up forms collect leads with your own questions on every plan, and you can export them or, on Pro, send them to your tools. Editorial looks like Matcha and Editorial match the reading mood; Broadcast suits podcasters.
Track Threads separately
Threads opens links in its in-app browser, where referrer data is unreliable. Add UTM tags (featurd.me/you?utm_source=threads&utm_campaign=bio) to your profile link and a different utm_campaign to links in posts.
featurd shows visits by UTM source and campaign, referrer, device and country, so you can compare Threads with Instagram and X instead of lumping them together as "social".
Mistakes to avoid on Threads
Things that make Threads traffic slip away:
- Copying your Instagram link without thinking about the Threads reader, who often came for words, not pictures.
- Posting a long thought and then linking to a page that doesn't continue it. If the post teases an essay, link the essay.
- Leaving every post without a link and then wondering why profile clicks are low. Threads readers act on links in posts.
- A page that opens with a shop when your Threads presence is all ideas. Lead with a sign-up or a reading list, then the offer.
- Untagged links, which make Threads invisible in your analytics because the in-app browser often hides the referrer.
Building a reading habit from Threads
Threads rewards people who post often and reply generously. The link page is where a casual reader becomes a regular one: a newsletter, a weekly post, an archive of your best threads. Put a short list of your three most popular ideas on the page with links to the full versions, and a sign-up under them.
Over time, that list of readers is worth more than follower count, because you can reach it without an algorithm. featurd lets you collect sign-ups with your own questions and export them whenever you like.
What converts from Threads
What we see working:
- Posts that share an idea and link to the long version on your page.
- A free newsletter or guide as the first offer.
- A page that reads well: serif type, short paragraphs, no wall of buttons.
- Replying to comments with the link when someone asks how to work with you.
